Ibn Abbas was asked about the tides, the rising and falling of the sea. He replied, "An angel has been appointed over the depths of the ocean. When he places his foot in it, the sea swells and rises, and when he lifts it, the sea recedes and falls."He said, Ibrahim bin Dinar narrated to me, Salih bin Sabbah narrated to us, from his father, from Ashras, from Ibn Abbas, something similar.

Its isnad is daif, as it contains unidentified narrators. Sabah and Ashras are unidentified, and I say "Sabah and Ashras," not "Sabah bin Ashras," because this is an old distortion made by the narrators. Ibn Hajar pointed this out in Tajil, and it is indicated in the following narration that it is Salih bin Sabah, from Ashras.The hadith is mawquf, attributed to Ibn Abbas.
