Abdullah bin Abbas reported,
Abu Jahl passed by and said, "Did I not forbid you from this?" The Prophet ﷺ rebuked him sharply.Abu Jahl said to him, "Why do you rebuke me, Muhammad? By Allah, you know well that no man here has a larger gathering behind him than I do."Then Jibreel 
said, "Then let him call his associates" [Alaq 96:17].Ibn Abbas said, "By Allah, had he called his associates, the angels of punishment would have seized him."

عن ابن عباس قال
مر أبو جهل فقال ألم أنهك فانتهره النبي ﷺ فقال له أبو جهل لم تنتهرني يا محمد فوالله لقد علمت ما بها رجل أكثر ناديا مني قال فقال جبريل عليه السلام {فليدع ناديه} قال فقال ابن عباس والله لو دعا ناديه لأخذته زبانية العذاب

Its isnad is sahih. Dawud is Ibn Abu Hind. Tirmidhi narrated something similar to it, 4:216, from Abdullah bin Saeed Ashaj, from Abu Khalid Ahmar, and he said, a gharib hasan sahih hadith. Ibn Kathir mentioned it in the tafsir, 9:248, and also attributed it to Nasai and Ibn Jareer. See 3045.Haythami said, 8/228, part of it is in the Sahih, and Ahmad narrated it through Zakwan from Ikrima, and I did not know Zakwan, while the rest of his narrators are the narrators of the Sahih. It appears that in Haythami's copy the name is Zakwan, which is a corruption, and the correct name is Dawud, as it is here and as it will come at 3045, namely Dawud bin Abu Hind.
