The Ansari, who was in charge of the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ sacrificial camels, reported that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent him out with the camels, he came back and asked, "Messenger of Allah, what do you instruct me to do with any of them that becomes injured along the way?"He replied, "Slaughter it, then dip its sandal in its blood and place it on its side or flank. Do not eat from it yourself, nor should anyone in your company eat from it."

قال حدثني الأنصاري صاحب بدن رسول الله ﷺ أن رسول الله ﷺ لما بعثه قال رجعت فقلت يا رسول الله ما تأمرني بما عطب منها قال انحرها ثم اصبغ نعلها في دمها ثم ضعها على صفحتها أو على جنبها ولا تأكل منها أنت ولا أحد من أهل رفقتك
