Someone who witnessed the Prophet ﷺ told me that he ordered the stoning of a man between Mecca and Medina. When the stones struck him, the man fled. Word of this reached the Prophet ﷺ, and he said, "Why did you not leave him alone?"

حدثني من شهد النبي ﷺ وأمر برجم رجل بين مكة والمدينة فلما أصابته الحجارة فر فبلغ ذلك النبي ﷺ فقال فهلا تركتموه
