The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent an expedition to Muta and placed Zayd in command, saying that if Zayd were killed, then Jafar would lead, and if Jafar were killed, then Ibn Rawahah. Ibn Rawahah stayed behind and prayed the Friday prayer with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When the Prophet saw him, he asked, "What kept you behind?"Ibn Rawahah replied, "I wanted to pray the Friday prayer with you."The Prophet said, "A morning's march or an evening's march is better than the world and everything in it."
وإن رسول الله ﷺ بعث إلى مؤتة فاستعمل زيدا فإن قتل زيد فجعفر فإن قتل جعفر فابن رواحة فتخلف ابن رواحة فجمع مع رسول الله ﷺ فرآه فقال ما خلفك قال أجمع معك قال لغدوة أو روحة خير من الدنيا وما فيها
