I set out one morning on an errand when I came upon a group of people in the marketplace, so I turned aside toward them. There was a man describing the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to them, giving his description.Later I met him on the open road between Arafat and Mina. He came into view among a group of riders, and I recognized him from that description.A man called out to me, "You there on your mount, get away from the faces of the riders!"But the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Leave the rider alone. He must have some need."So I came up and took hold of the camel's reins, or its halter, and said, "Messenger of Allah, tell me of a deed that will bring me near to Paradise and keep me far from the Fire."He asked, "Is that what has brought you out and wearied you?"I said, "Yes."He said, "Then take this in, or understand it well. Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, establish the prayer, pay the zakat, fast Ramadan, make pilgrimage to the House, treat people as you would like to be treated, and hate for people what you would hate to have done to you. Now let go of the camel's reins," or he said, "its halter."Abu Qatan said, I asked him, "Did you hear it from him yourself, or did you hear it from Mughira?"He answered, "Yes."
حدثنا أبو قطن حدثنا يونس
غدوت لحاجة فإذا أنا بجماعة في السوق فملت إليهم فإذا رجل يحدثهم وصف رسول الله ﷺ ووصف صفته قال فعرضت له على قارعة الطريق بين عرفات ومنى فرفع لي في ركب فعرفته بالصفة قال فهتف بي رجل يا أيها الراكب خل عن وجوه الركاب قال رسول الله ﷺ ذروا الراكب فأرب ما له قال فجئت حتى أخذت بزمام الناقة أو خطامها فقلت يا رسول الله حدثني أو خبرني بعمل يقربني إلى الجنة ويباعدني من النار قال أوذلك أعملك أو أنصبك قال قلت نعم قال فاعقل إذا أو افهم تعبد الله لا تشرك به شيئا وتقيم الصلاة وتؤتي الزكاة وتصوم رمضان وتحج البيت وتأتي إلى الناس ما تحب أن يؤتى إليك وتكره للناس ما تكره أن يؤتى إليك خل زمام الناقة أو خطامها قال أبو قطن فقلت له سمعته منه أو سمعت من المغيرة قال نعم
