The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked which deed is best. Shuba said, or perhaps the wording was, "The best deed is prayer at its proper time, kindness to parents, and jihad."
حدثنا محمد بن جعفر حدثنا شعبة أخبرني عبيد المكتب قال سمعت أبا عمرو الشيباني يحدث
سئل رسول الله ﷺ أي العمل أفضل قال شعبة أو قال أفضل العمل الصلاة لوقتها وبر الوالدين والجهاد
Its isnad is sahih, if Abdul-Malik the scribe is Ibn Umayr. Muslim also narrated it, through the route of Shubah, from Walid bin Iyad, from Abu Amr Shaybani, from Abdullah bin Masud, 1/90, no. 85. Haythami said, 1/302, "The men of Ahmad are the men of the Sahih." Munziri said likewise, 1/256.
