We were with the Prophet ﷺ, and he stopped to camp with us. We were nearly a thousand riders accompanying him. He prayed two rakahs, then turned toward us with tears streaming from his eyes.Umar bin Khattab rose and went to him, offering his father and mother as ransom for him, and asked, "Messenger of Allah, what is the matter with you?"He replied, "I asked my Lord for permission to seek forgiveness for my mother, but He did not grant it to me, so my eyes filled with tears out of compassion for her from the Fire.I had forbidden you three things. I forbade you from visiting graves, but now visit them, for visiting them will remind you of good. I forbade you from the meat of sacrificial animals after three days, but now eat from it and store whatever you wish. And I forbade you from drinks in certain vessels, but now drink from any vessel you wish, only do not drink any intoxicant."
