I was sitting with the Prophet ﷺ when I heard him say, "My nation will be driven back by a people with broad faces and small eyes, as though their faces were shields of leather." He repeated this three times, then said, "until they push them back to the Arabian Peninsula. As for the first wave, whoever flees from them will be saved. As for the second, some will perish and some will be saved. As for the third, all who remain of them will be utterly destroyed."They asked, "Prophet of Allah, who are they?"He replied, "They are the Turks."He said, "By the One in whose hand is my soul, they will tie their horses to the pillars of the Muslims' mosques."After that, Burayda would never be without two or three camels, travel provisions, and water-skins, ready to flee because of what he had heard from the Prophet ﷺ regarding the trial that would come at the hands of the Turkish rulers.
حدثنا أبو نعيم حدثنا بشير بن مهاجر حدثني
كنت جالسا عند النبي ﷺ فسمعت النبي ﷺ يقول إن أمتي يسوقها قوم عراض الأوجه صغار الأعين كأن وجوههم الحجف ثلاث مرار حتى يلحقوهم بجزيرة العرب أما السابقة الأولى فينجو من هرب منهم وأما الثانية فيهلك بعض وينجو بعض وأما الثالثة فيصطلون كلهم من بقي منهم قالوا يا نبي الله من هم قال هم الترك قال أما والذي نفسي بيده ليربطن خيولهم إلى سواري مساجد المسلمين قال وكان بريدة لا يفارقه بعيران أو ثلاثة ومتاع السفر والأسقية بعد ذلك للهرب مما سمع من النبي ﷺ من البلاء من أمراء الترك
