Abu Qatada reported,

I was with a group of the Prophet's ﷺ companions, all of whom were in the state of ihram except for one man. He spotted some game, took up a whip, charged at it, and caught it. He ate from it, and we ate with him, then we packed some of it as provisions.When we came to the Prophet ﷺ, we said, "Messenger of Allah, so-and-so was not in ihram and he caught some game. He ate from it, we ate with him, and we still have some of it with us."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to them, "Eat."
