We were sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a gathering when a funeral procession passed by. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "One who finds rest, and one from whom rest is found."We asked, "Messenger of Allah, who is the one who finds rest?"He replied, "The believing servant finds rest from the toil and harm of this world and passes on to the mercy of Allah."We then asked, "And who is the one from whom rest is found?"He answered, "The wicked servant. From him the people, the land, the trees, and the animals find rest."Abdul-Rahman said, I recited this hadith to Malik.
حدثنا ابن مهدي حدثنا زهير بن محمد حدثني محمد بن عمرو بن حلحلة عن معبد بن كعب بن مالك أن أبا قتادة قال أبي أخبره ويزيد بن هارون قال أخبرنا محمد بن إسحاق عن معبد بن كعب بن مالك
كنا مع رسول الله ﷺ جلوسا في مجلس إذ مر بجنازة فقال رسول الله ﷺ مستريح ومستراح منه قال فقلنا يا رسول الله ما المستريح قال العبد المؤمن يستريح من نصب الدنيا وأذاها إلى رحمة الله قلنا فما المستراح منه قال العبد الفاجر يستريح منه العباد والبلاد والشجر والدواب قال عبد الرحمن وقرأته على مالك يعني هذا الحديث
