His grandfather, who was a Companion, reported that he once set out to visit one of his brothers. Word reached him along the way that the man had fallen ill.He entered upon him and said, "I have come to you as a visitor, as one calling on the sick, and as a bearer of good news."The man asked, "How have you combined all of this in one visit?"He replied, "I set out intending to visit you, then news of your illness reached me, so it became a sick-call as well. And I bring you good news of something I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said, 'When Allah has decreed for a servant a rank he has not attained through his deeds, He afflicts him in his body, his wealth, or his children, then grants him patience until he reaches the rank that had been decreed for him.'"

وكان لجده صحبة أنه خرج زائرا لرجل من إخوانه فبلغه شكاته قال فدخل عليه فقال أتيتك زائرا عائدا ومبشرا قال كيف جمعت هذا كله قال خرجت وأنا أريد زيارتك فبلغتني شكاتك فكانت عيادة وأبشرك بشيء سمعته من رسول الله ﷺ قال إذا سبقت للعبد من الله منزلة لم يبلغها بعمله ابتلاه الله في جسده أو في ماله أو في ولده ثم صبره حتى يبلغه المنزلة التي سبقت له منه
Its isnad is daif. They said, Muhammad bin Khalid Sulami, from his father, from his grandfather, no one knows who these people are. Abu Dawud narrated it at 3090. As for Abu Malih Raqqi, who alone narrated it as Mizzi said, he is Hasan bin Umar Raqqi, and he is trustworthy, his hadith appears in Bukhari.
