The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to perform the witr prayer with nine units. When he grew older and heavier, he performed witr with seven units, then prayed two units while seated, reciting "When the earth is shaken" [Zalzalah 99:1] and "Say, O you disbelievers" [Kafirun 109:1].

كان رسول الله ﷺ يوتر بتسع حتى إذا بدن وكثر لحمه أوتر بسبع وصلى ركعتين وهو جالس فقرأ بإذا زلزلت وقل يا أيها الكافرون
