Abu Umama reported,

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Affection comes from Allah."Sharik explained that "affection" here means love, and that it is sent down from heaven. When Allah loves a servant, He says to Jibreel, "I love so-and-so." So Jibreel calls out, "Allah holds affection for, meaning He loves, so-and-so, so love him."I believe Sharik said, "And so love for him is sent down upon the earth."And when Allah despises a servant, He says to Jibreel, "I despise so-and-so, so despise him." Jibreel then calls out, "Your Lord despises so-and-so, so despise him."He said, I believe Sharik said, "And so hatred of him spreads throughout the earth."
