We attended a meal hosted by Abdul-Ala bin Hilal. When we finished eating, Abu Umama stood up and said, "I have risen here, though I am no orator and have no wish to deliver a speech. But I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say at the end of a meal, 'Praise be to Allah, abundant, wholesome, and blessed praise, never enough, never to be bid farewell, never to be done without.'"He kept repeating these words to us until we had memorized them.
حدثنا ابن مهدي عن معاوية يعني ابن صالح عن عامر بن جشيب
حضرنا صنيعا لعبد الأعلى بن هلال فلما فرغنا من الطعام قام أبو أمامة فقال لقد قمت مقامي هذا وما أنا بخطيب وما أريد الخطبة ولكني سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول عند انقضاء الطعام الحمد لله كثيرا طيبا مباركا فيه غير مكفي ولا مودع ولا مستغنى عنه قال فلم يزل يرددهن علينا حتى حفظناهن
