When you use water for purification properly in its appointed places, you sit down with your sins forgiven. If you then stand to pray, it is an added merit and reward for you, and if you remain seated, you remain forgiven.A man said to him, "Abu Umama, what do you think if he stands and prays, would it count as a voluntary act for him?"He replied, "No. Voluntary acts are only for the Prophet ﷺ. How can it be a voluntary act for him when he is still struggling with sins and faults? Rather, it is an added merit and reward for him."
حدثنا يزيد بن هارون أخبرنا سليم بن حيان حدثنا أبو غالب قال سمعت
إذا وضعت الطهور مواضعه قعدت مغفورا لك فإن قام يصلي كانت له فضيلة وأجرا وإن قعد قعد مغفورا له فقال له رجل يا أبا أمامة أرأيت إن قام فصلى تكون له نافلة قال لا إنما النافلة للنبي ﷺ كيف تكون له نافلة وهو يسعى في الذنوب والخطايا تكون له فضيلة وأجرا
