Abu Muslim Khawlani reported,

I entered the mosque of Homs, and there I found about thirty elders from the companions of the Prophet ﷺ. Among them was a young man with kohl-darkened eyes and bright front teeth, sitting silently. Whenever the people disagreed about something, they would turn to him and ask him.I said to the man sitting next to me, "Who is this?"He replied, "This is Muaz bin Jabal."Love for him took hold in my heart, and I stayed with them until they dispersed. Then I went early to the mosque and found Muaz bin Jabal standing in prayer beside a pillar. He remained silent and did not speak to me. So I prayed, then sat down and wrapped myself in my cloak. He sat down too, but he stayed silent and did not speak to me, and I stayed silent and did not speak to him.Then I said, "By Allah, I truly love you."He asked, "For what reason do you love me?"I said, "For the sake of Allah ."He took hold of my cloak and pulled me toward him a little, then said, "Rejoice, if you are truthful. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Those who love one another for the sake of My majesty will have pulpits of light, and the prophets and martyrs will envy them.'"I went out and met Ubada bin Samit, and I said, "Abu Walid, shall I not tell you what Muaz bin Jabal narrated to me about those who love one another?"He said, "Then let me tell you what the Prophet ﷺ reported, tracing it back to the Lord , who said, 'My love is assured for those who love one another for My sake, My love is assured for those who visit one another for My sake, My love is assured for those who give to one another for My sake, and My love is assured for those who maintain ties with one another for My sake.'"

دخلت مسجد حمص فإذا فيه نحو من ثلاثين كهلا من أصحاب النبي ﷺ فإذا فيهم شاب أكحل العينين براق الثنايا ساكت فإذا امترى القوم في شيء أقبلوا عليه فسألوه فقلت لجليس لي من هذا قال هذا معاذ بن جبل فوقع له في نفسي حب فكنت معهم حتى تفرقوا ثم هجرت إلى المسجد فإذا معاذ بن جبل قائم يصلي إلى سارية فسكت لا يكلمني فصليت ثم جلست فاحتبيت برداء لي ثم جلس فسكت لا يكلمني وسكت لا أكلمه ثم قلت والله إني لأحبك قال فيم تحبني قال قلت في الله تبارك وتعالى فأخذ بحبوتي فجرني إليه هنية ثم قال أبشر إن كنت صادقا سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول المتحابون في جلالي لهم منابر من نور يغبطهم النبيون والشهداء قال فخرجت فلقيت عبادة بن الصامت فقلت يا أبا الوليد لا أحدثك بما حدثني معاذ بن جبل في المتحابين قال فأنا أحدثك عن النبي ﷺ يرفعه إلى الرب عز وجل قال حقت محبتي للمتحابين في وحقت محبتي للمتزاورين في وحقت محبتي للمتباذلين في وحقت محبتي للمتواصلين في
