Aaizullah bin Abdullah reported,

Muaz arrived in Yemen, and a woman from Khawlan met him. She had with her twelve sons, having left their father at home. The youngest of them was already a grown man with a full beard. She came forward and greeted Muaz, with two of her sons holding her by the upper arms.She asked, "Who sent you, sir?"Muaz replied, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me."The woman said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent you, and you are the envoy of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? Will you not then inform me, envoy of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?"Muaz said to her, "Ask me whatever you wish."She said, "Tell me, what is a man's right over his wife?"Muaz answered, "She must fear Allah as much as she is able, and she must listen and obey."She said, "I adjure you by Allah, tell me what is a man's right over his wife."Muaz replied, "Are you not satisfied that she should listen, obey, and fear Allah?"She said, "Yes, but tell me what is a man's right over his wife, for I have left the father of these sons at home, an elderly old man."Muaz said to her, "By Him in whose hand is the soul of Muaz, if you were to return to him and find that leprosy had eaten away his flesh and torn through his nostrils, so that pus and blood were flowing from them, and you then placed them in your mouth so that you might fulfill his right, you would still never fulfill it."

أن معاذا قدم على اليمن فلقيته امرأة من خولان معها بنون لها اثنا عشر فتركت أباهم في بيتها أصغرهم الذي قد اجتمعت لحيته فقامت فسلمت على معاذ ورجلان من بنيها يمسكان بضبعيها فقالت من أرسلك أيها الرجل قال لها معاذ أرسلني رسول الله ﷺ قالت المرأة أرسلك رسول الله ﷺ وأنت رسول رسول الله ﷺ أفلا تخبرني يا رسول رسول الله ﷺ فقال لها معاذ سليني عما شئت قالت حدثني ما حق المرء على زوجته قال لها معاذ تتقي الله ما استطاعت وتسمع وتطيع قالت أقسمت بالله عليك لتحدثني ما حق الرجل على زوجته قال لها معاذ أوما رضيت أن تسمعي وتطيعي وتتقي الله قالت بلى ولكن حدثني ما حق المرء على زوجته فإني تركت أبا هؤلاء شيخا كبيرا في البيت فقال لها معاذ والذي نفس معاذ في يده لو أنك ترجعين إذا رجعت إليه فوجدت الجذام قد خرق لحمه وخرق منخريه فوجدت منخريه يسيلان قيحا ودما ثم ألقمتيهما فاك لكي ما تبلغي حقه ما بلغت ذلك أبدا
