Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ camped at a stopping place, those nearest to him were the Muhajirun. We came to a halt at one such place, and the Prophet ﷺ settled down with us gathered around him.During the night, Muaz and I awoke and looked about, but we could not see him. So we set out searching for him, and suddenly we heard a humming sound like the grinding of mill-stones. Then he appeared, and when he came up he asked, "What is the matter with you?"We answered, "We woke up and did not see you where you had been. We feared something had befallen you, so we came looking for you."He said, "Someone came to me in my sleep and gave me a choice between half of my Ummah entering Paradise or intercession, and I chose intercession for them."We said, "We ask you, by the right of Islam and by the right of companionship, that you include us in your intercession so that we may enter Paradise."The people then gathered around him and said to him the same as we had said, until the crowd grew large, and he said, "I make my intercession for whoever dies not associating anything with Allah."
Its isnad is sahih, connected via the route of Abu Malih from Abu Musa, but disconnected via the route of Abu Malih from Muaz. Abu Malih is among the trustworthy successors, and he is the son of Usamah bin Umayr. His narrations appear with the whole group of hadith compilers, but he died after the year 100. The hadith has already appeared under Abu Musa at 21308.
