The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out on a journey during the expedition of Tabuk, and he combined the Dhuhr and Asr prayers together, and the Maghrib and Isha prayers together.I asked, "What led him to do that?"He replied, "He wanted to spare his community from hardship."

خرج رسول الله ﷺ في سفرة سافرها وذلك في غزوة تبوك فجمع بين الظهر والعصر والمغرب والعشاء قلت ما حمله على ذلك قال أراد أن لا يحرج أمته
Its isnad is sahih. Abu Tufayl is Amir bin Wathila, the long-lived companion, who was, as they said, the last of the companions to die.Muslim narrated the hadith 1/490 and 4/1784, no. 706, in both abridged and fuller versions. Abu Dawud narrated it 2/4, no. 1206, Nasai 1/285, Ibn Majah 1/340, no. 1070, Darimi 1/356, Malik 1/136, Ibn Khuzayma 2/81, no. 966, and Bayhaqi 3/163, all of them in the book of prayer, in the chapter on combining two prayers.
