He informed him that he heard in a gathering of the Laythis as they were mentioning that Sufyan had told them that his horse had become exhausted at al-Aqiq while he was on a military expedition the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had sent them on. So he returned to him to ask for a mount. Sufyan claimed, as they reported, that the Prophet ﷺ went out with him seeking a camel for him, but found one only with Abu Jahm bin Hudhayfah al-Adawi. He bargained with him for it, but Abu Jahm said to him, "I will not sell it to you, Messenger of Allah, but take it and let whomever you wish ride it."Sufyan claimed that he took it from him and then set out. When he reached the well of al-Ihab, he claimed that the Prophet ﷺ said, "Buildings will soon reach this place, and Sham will soon be conquered. Some men from the people of this city will go there, and its lush countryside and ease of living will please them, but Madinah is better for them, if they only knew. Then Iraq will be conquered, and a people will come driving their mounts swiftly, taking their families and those who follow them, but Madinah is better for them, if they only knew. Indeed, Ibrahim prayed for the people of Makkah, and I ask Allah to bless us in our saa and to bless us in our mudd just as He blessed the people of Makkah."
Its isnad is daif, due to the unknown identity of the narrator who related from Sufyan. Bukhari and Muslim both narrated it through Hisham, from his father, from his grandfather, from Sufyan bin Zuhayr. Bukhari 4/90, no. 1875, Fath al-Bari, Merits of Madinah, chapter on one who turns away from Madinah. And Muslim 2/1008, no. 1388, in the Book of Hajj, chapter on encouragement to live in Madinah. As for his saying "yabissun," it comes from "bass," used when driving camels or the like forward. Here it is a figure of speech for departing and driving camels loaded with their burdens.
