Abu Waail reported,

Ashath bin Qays came in and asked, "What is Abu Abdul-Rahman telling you?" They informed him, and Ashath said, "He has spoken the truth. It was concerning me that this verse was revealed.There was a dispute between me and another man over a piece of land, so I brought the case before the Prophet ﷺ.He asked, "Do you have any evidence?"I replied, "No."He said, "Then he must take an oath."I said, "In that case, he will swear."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "Whoever takes a deliberate oath in order to seize the property of a Muslim by it, while being a liar, will meet Allah while He is angry with him."Then this verse was revealed, "Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allah and their oaths for a small price" [Aal Imran 3:77].

عن أبي وائل قال

دخل الأشعث بن قيس فقال ما يحدثكم أبو عبد الرحمن فأخبروه فقال أشعث صدق في نزلت كان بيني وبين رجل خصومة في أرض فخاصمته إلى النبي ﷺ فقال ألك بينة قلت لا قال فيمينه قال قلت إذن يحلف قال فقال رسول الله ﷺ من حلف على يمين صبرا ليقتطع بها مال امرئ مسلم وهو فيها فاجر لقي الله عز وجل وهو عليه غضبان قال فنزلت {إن الذين يشترون بعهد الله وأيمانهم ثمنا قليلا}
