I was in Medina when news reached me that the plague had broken out in Kufa. Ata bin Yasar and several other people of Medina mentioned this hadith to me.I asked, "Who narrates it?"They replied, "Amir bin Saad," but he was away at the time.Then I met Ibrahim bin Saad and asked him about it. He said, "I heard Usama narrating to Saad that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'This affliction is a punishment, or a remnant of a punishment, with which people before you were tormented.'" Habib was uncertain about the wording. "So when it occurs in a land while you are there, do not flee from it, and when you hear of it in a land, do not enter it."I said to him, "Did you yourself hear Usama narrating this to Saad, and Saad did not deny it?"He replied, "Yes."

كنت بالمدينة فبلغني أن الطاعون بالكوفة قال فذكر لي عطاء بن يسار وغير واحد من أهل المدينة هذا الحديث قال فقلت من يحدثه قال فقالوا عامر بن سعد وكان غائبا قال فلقيت إبراهيم بن سعد قال فسألته عن ذلك فقال سمعت أسامة يحدث سعدا أن رسول الله ﷺ قال إن هذا الوجع رجس وعذاب أو بقية عذاب حبيب شك فيه عذب به ناس قبلكم فإذا كان بأرض وأنتم بها فلا تخرجوا منها وإذا سمعتم به في أرض فلا تدخلوها قال فقلت له آنت سمعت أسامة يحدث سعدا فلم ينكر قال نعم
