The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed the Eid prayer and then delivered the sermon. Abu Bakr prayed and then delivered the sermon. Umar prayed and then delivered the sermon. Uthman prayed and then delivered the sermon, all without adhan or iqamah.
Its isnad is sahih. Muammal is Ibn Ismail, Abu Abdul-Rahman. We mentioned in 97 that he is trustworthy, and Ibn Main and others confirmed his reliability. Ajurri said, "I asked Abu Dawud about him," and he praised him highly and spoke well of his standing, except that he makes some minor mistakes. Some have criticized him without solid grounds. The Hafiz mentioned in Tahdheeb that Bukhari said of him, "His hadith is munkar," but I do not know where he said this, for he did not mention any fault in him there. It appears to me that the author of Tahdheeb, when he went back to Tarikh al-Kabir, mistakenly shifted his attention to the entry that comes right after it, which is the entry for Muammal bin Saeed Rahbi. It is he about whom Bukhari said that, not the one under discussion here. This hadith is a repetition of 2171.
