A man came to Abu Darda and said, "My wife is my paternal cousin and I love her, but my mother is ordering me to divorce her."Abu Darda replied, "I will not order you to divorce her, nor will I order you to disobey your mother. But I will tell you something I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'The mother is the middle gate of Paradise. So if you wish, keep her, and if you wish, let her go.'"
