He related that a man whose mother or father, or both, had ordered him to divorce his wife, Shuba says he reported it this way, had imposed upon himself the freeing of a hundred slaves. So he came to Abu Darda and found him praying the forenoon prayer, prolonging it, and then praying between Dhuhr and Asr.He asked him about his situation, and Abu Darda said to him, "Fulfill your vow and be dutiful to your parents. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'The parent is the middle gate of Paradise, so guard that gate or let it go.'"

يحدث أن رجلا أمرته أمه أو أبوه أو كلاهما قال شعبة يقول ذلك أن يطلق امرأته فجعل عليه مائة محرر فأتى أبا الدرداء فإذا هو يصلي الضحى يطيلها وصلى ما بين الظهر والعصر فسأله فقال له أبو الدرداء أوف نذرك وبر والديك إني سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول الوالد أوسط باب الجنة فحافظ على الوالد أو اترك
