Zayd bin Thabit said, "I was sitting beside the Prophet ﷺ one day when revelation came down to him. A state of stillness overcame him, and his thigh fell upon mine. By Allah, I have never felt anything heavier than the thigh of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at that moment.Then it was lifted from him, and he said, 'Write, Zayd.'So I took a shoulder blade and he said, 'Write, "Not equal are those believers who sit at home and those who strive in the way of Allah," up to His words, "a great reward" [Nisa 4:95].'I wrote that on the shoulder blade. When Ibn Umm Maktum, who was a blind man, heard the virtue of those who strive, he stood up and said, 'Messenger of Allah, what about one who is unable to strive, such as the blind and others like him?'By Allah, his words had hardly finished when the state of stillness overcame the Prophet ﷺ again, and his thigh fell upon mine, and I felt the same heaviness as before. Then it was lifted from him, and he said, 'Recite.'So I recited to him, "Not equal are those believers who sit at home and those who strive in the way of Allah."The Prophet ﷺ said, '"Except those who have a disability."'So I added it in. By Allah, it is as though I am still looking at the place where I added it, beside a crack that was in the shoulder blade."
حدثنا سليمان بن داود أخبرنا عبد الرحمن عن أبي الزناد
قال زيد بن ثابت إني قاعد إلى جنب النبي ﷺ يوما إذ أوحي إليه قال وغشيته السكينة ووقع فخذه على فخذي حين غشيته السكينة قال زيد فلا والله ما وجدت شيئا قط أثقل من فخذ رسول الله ﷺ ثم سري عنه فقال اكتب يا زيد فأخذت كتفا فقال اكتب لا يستوي القاعدون من المؤمنين والمجاهدون الآية كلها إلى قوله أجرا عظيما فكتبت ذلك في كتف فقام حين سمعها ابن أم مكتوم وكان رجلا أعمى فقام حين سمع فضيلة المجاهدين قال يا رسول الله فكيف بمن لا يستطيع الجهاد ممن هو أعمى وأشباه ذلك قال زيد فوالله ما مضى كلامه أو ما هو إلا أن قضى كلامه غشيت النبي ﷺ السكينة فوقعت فخذه على فخذي فوجدت من ثقلها كما وجدت في المرة الأولى ثم سري عنه فقال اقرأ فقرأت عليه لا يستوي القاعدون من المؤمنين والمجاهدون فقال النبي ﷺ {غير أولي الضرر} قال زيد فألحقتها فوالله لكأني أنظر إلى ملحقها عند صدع كان في الكتف
