Zayd bin Thabit reported,

When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out for Uhud, some of those who had gone out with him turned back. The companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ then split into two groups, one saying, "We should kill them," and the other saying, "No."Ibn Jafar said in his version, "One group said, 'Let us kill them,' and another group said, 'No.'"Bahz said, So Allah revealed, "What is the matter with you that you are divided into two parties regarding the hypocrites?" [Nisa 4:88].The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, it is Tayba, and it expels evil just as fire expels the dross of silver."

حدثنا عفان حدثنا شعبة قال عدي بن ثابت أخبرني قال سمعت عبد الله بن يزيد

عن زيد بن ثابت قال

لما خرج رسول الله ﷺ إلى أحد رجع أناس خرجوا معه فكان أصحاب رسول الله ﷺ فرقتين فرقة تقول نقتلهم وفرقة تقول لا قال ابن جعفر فكان فريق يقولون قتلهم وفريق يقولون لا قال بهز فأنزل الله {فما لكم في المنافقين فئتين} فقال رسول الله ﷺ إنها طيبة وإنها تنفي الخبث كما تنفي النار خبث الفضة
