Zayd bin Thabit reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed one night, and the people in the mosque heard his prayer. The next night, more people gathered, but the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ voice was faint to them, so they began trying to draw his attention by clearing their throats. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ looked out at them and said, "You have kept on doing what you are doing until I feared it might be made obligatory upon you. If it were made obligatory upon you, you would not be able to keep it up. The best prayer a person performs is in his own home, except for the prescribed prayer."
