Abban bin Uthman bin Affan reported,

Zayd bin Thabit came out from Marwan's presence around midday. We said, "He must have summoned him at this hour only to ask him about something." So I went up to him and asked him.He said, "Yes, he asked us about things I had heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'May Allah brighten the face of a person who hears a hadith from us, memorizes it, and conveys it to others. For many a bearer of knowledge is not himself a person of understanding, and many a bearer of knowledge carries it to one who understands it better than he does. There are three qualities concerning which the heart of a Muslim will never harbor treachery: sincerity in deeds for the sake of Allah, giving sincere counsel to those in authority, and adhering to the community of Muslims, for their call encompasses those behind them.'"He also said, "Whoever's main concern is the Hereafter, Allah will gather his affairs for him, place contentment in his heart, and the world will come to him in submission. And whoever's intention is the world, Allah will scatter his affairs, place poverty before his eyes, and nothing will come to him of the world except what has been decreed for him.""He also asked us about the middle prayer, and it is the noon prayer."

عن عبد الرحمن بن أبان بن عثمان عن أبيه

أن زيد بن ثابت خرج من عند مروان نحوا من نصف النهار فقلنا ما بعث إليه الساعة إلا لشيء سأله عنه فقمت إليه فسألته فقال أجل سألنا عن أشياء سمعتها من رسول الله ﷺ سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول نضر الله امرأ سمع منا حديثا فحفظه حتى يبلغه غيره فإنه رب حامل فقه ليس بفقيه ورب حامل فقه إلى من هو أفقه منه ثلاث خصال لا يغل عليهن قلب مسلم أبدا إخلاص العمل لله ومناصحة ولاة الأمر ولزوم الجماعة فإن دعوتهم تحيط من ورائهم وقال من كان همه الآخرة جمع الله شمله وجعل غناه في قلبه وأتته الدنيا وهي راغمة ومن كانت نيته الدنيا فرق الله عليه ضيعته وجعل فقره بين عينيه ولم يأته من الدنيا إلا ما كتب له وسألنا عن الصلاة الوسطى وهي الظهر
