The people began asking him about prayer while traveling, so he said, "Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ left his family, he would pray only two rakahs until he returned to them."
Its isnad is sahih. Abu Safar, with fatha on the fa, is Saeed bin Yahmad, with damma on the ya, sukun on the ha, and kasra on the mim, and he is also said to be Ibn Ahmad Hamdani Thawri. He is a trustworthy Tabii who narrated from Ibn Abbas, Ibn Umar, and others. Ibn Abdul-Barr said, "They agreed that he is trustworthy in what he narrated and transmitted."Saeed bin Shufayy, with damma on the shin, fatha on the fa, and shaddah on the ya, Abu Zura said, "A Kufan from Hamdan, trustworthy." Bukhari gave his biography in Tarikh al-Kabir 1/2/441.This hadith was narrated by Tayalisi, 2737, from Shuba, and Bukhari alluded to it in the biography of Ibn Shufayy, from Muhammad bin Arara, from Shuba. It will come after this by the route of Israil from his grandfather Abu Ishaq Sabi from Saeed bin Shufayy. So it appears that Abu Ishaq sometimes connected it and sometimes left it disconnected. That is why Bukhari, in Tarikh al-Kabir, said after the first narration, "Abu Naeem said, Zuhayr narrated to us from Abu Ishaq from a man of his tribe, Saeed bin Shufayy, from Ibn Abbas. And Ubaydullah said, from Israil, from Abu Ishaq, from Saeed bin Shufayy, who heard Ibn Abbas."His saying "from a man of his tribe" means from his clan, since both of them were from Hamdan. It is possible that Abu Ishaq heard it both from Saeed bin Shufayy and from Abu Safar narrating from him.In H it reads, "until his family returned to him," and we have corrected it based on K, Tayalisi, and Tarikh al-Kabir.
