We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey when a man came to him and said, "The other one has committed adultery." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned away from him. Then the man repeated it a third time, and a fourth time. The Prophet ﷺ dismounted.Mura said, the man confessed to adultery before him, and the Prophet ﷺ made him repeat it four times. Then he dismounted and ordered us, so we dug a shallow pit for him, and he was stoned.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then set off, dejected and sorrowful. We traveled until he stopped at a resting place, and the grief lifted from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said to me, "Abu Dharr, do you not see that your companion has been forgiven and admitted into Paradise?"
حدثنا يزيد أخبرنا حجاج بن أرطاة عن عبد الملك بن المغيرة الطائفي عن عبد الله بن المقدام عن ابن شداد
كنا مع رسول الله ﷺ في سفر فأتاه رجل فقال إن الآخر قد زنى فأعرض عنه ثم ثلث ثم ربع فنزل النبي ﷺ فقال مرة فأقر عنده بالزنا فردده أربعا ثم نزل فأمرنا فحفرنا له حفيرة ليست بالطويلة فرجم فارتحل رسول الله ﷺ كئيبا حزينا فسرنا حتى نزل منزلا فسري عن رسول الله ﷺ فقال لي يا أبا ذر ألم تر إلى صاحبكم غفر له وأدخل الجنة

Its isnad is daif, due to the obscurity of Abdullah bin Miqdam, for it is stated in al-Taajil, "He is not well known." As for Ibn Shaddad, he is Abdullah bin Shaddad bin Had, the trustworthy and virtuous tabii, but Haythami said in 6/266, "Ahmad narrated it, and it contains Hajjaj bin Artah, who is a mudallis," and he did not mention Abdullah bin Miqdam, and it appears that he considered him trustworthy.
