We fasted Ramadan with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he did not lead us in night prayer at any point during the month until the twenty-fourth night came. On that night the Messenger of Allah ﷺ led us in prayer until nearly a third of the night had passed. The following night he did not lead us in prayer. Then on the twenty-sixth night the Messenger of Allah ﷺ led us in prayer until nearly half the night had passed.I said, "Messenger of Allah, would that you led us in voluntary prayer for the remainder of this night of ours."He replied, "No. When a man prays with the imam until he finishes, it is recorded for him as standing in prayer for an entire night."The next night he did not lead us in prayer. Then on the twenty-eighth night the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gathered his household, and the people gathered as well. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ led us in prayer until we nearly missed the falah.I asked, "What is the falah?"He answered, "The pre-dawn meal."Then, my nephew, he did not lead us in any prayer for the rest of the month.
حدثنا علي بن عاصم عن داود عن الوليد بن عبد الرحمن عن جبير بن نفير
صمنا مع رسول الله ﷺ رمضان فلم يقم بنا شيئا من الشهر حتى إذا كان ليلة أربع وعشرين قام بنا رسول الله ﷺ حتى كاد أن يذهب ثلث الليل فلما كانت الليلة التي تليها لم يقم بنا فلما كانت ليلة ست وعشرين قام بنا رسول الله ﷺ حتى كاد أن يذهب شطر الليل قال قلت يا رسول الله لو نفلتنا بقية ليلتنا هذه قال لا إن الرجل إذا قام مع الإمام حتى ينصرف حسب له قيام ليلة فلما كانت الليلة التي تليها لم يقم بنا فلما أن كانت ليلة ثمان وعشرين جمع رسول الله ﷺ أهله واجتمع له الناس فصلى بنا رسول الله ﷺ حتى كاد يفوتنا الفلاح قال قلت وما الفلاح قال السحور ثم لم يقم بنا يا ابن أخي شيئا من الشهر
