He came forward along with a group of men, and they found a whip. One of his companions picked it up, and the others neither instructed him to take it nor forbade him from doing so.When I arrived in Medina, we met Ubayy bin Kaab and asked him about it. He said, "I found one hundred dinars during the time of the Prophet ﷺ, so I asked the Prophet ﷺ about it. He said, 'Announce it publicly for one year.'"He repeated this instruction to him until he had mentioned three years.Ubayy said, "I said, 'Messenger of Allah!'"He replied, "Then it is yours to use as you wish."

أقبل هو ونفر معه فوجدوا سوطا فأخذه صاحبه فلم يأمروه ولم ينهوه فقدمت المدينة فلقينا أبي بن كعب فسألناه فقال وجدت مائة دينار في زمن النبي ﷺ فسألت النبي ﷺ فقال عرفها حولا فكرر عليه حتى ذكر أحوالا ثلاثة فقلت يا رسول الله فقال شأنك بها
