Ubayy bin Kaab reported,

Abu Hurayrah was bold in asking the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about matters no one else would ask him about. He said, "Messenger of Allah, what is the first thing you witnessed regarding the matter of prophethood?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat up straight and said, "You have indeed asked, Abu Hurayrah. I was in the open desert, ten years and a few months old, when suddenly I heard speech above my head. There was a man saying to another, 'Is it him?' He replied, 'Yes.' Then they came toward me with faces I had never seen on any creature, scents I had never encountered from any creature, and garments I had never seen on anyone. They walked up to me until each of them took hold of one of my upper arms, yet I could not feel the touch of either of them.One of them said to his companion, 'Lay him down.' So they laid me down without force or roughness.Then one said to the other, 'Split open his chest.' So one of them bent down toward my chest and split it open, as it appeared to me, without blood or pain.He then said to him, 'Remove the malice and envy.' So he took out something resembling a clot of blood, then cast it away and discarded it.He said to him, 'Put in compassion and mercy.' And there was something like what had been removed, resembling silver. Then he shook the big toe of my right foot and said, 'Go forth in peace.'So I returned, walking with tenderness for the young and mercy for the elderly."

أن أبا هريرة كان جريا على أن يسأل رسول الله ﷺ عن أشياء لا يسأله عنها غيره فقال يا رسول الله ما أول ما رأيت في أمر النبوة فاستوى رسول الله ﷺ جالسا وقال لقد سألت أبا هريرة إني لفي صحراء ابن عشر سنين وأشهر وإذا بكلام فوق رأسي وإذا رجل يقول لرجل أهو هو قال نعم فاستقبلاني بوجوه لم أرها لخلق قط وأرواح لم أجدها من خلق قط وثياب لم أرها على أحد قط فأقبلا إلي يمشيان حتى أخذ كل واحد منهما بعضدي لا أجد لأحدهما مسا فقال أحدهما لصاحبه أضجعه فأضجعاني بلا قصر ولا هصر وقال أحدهما لصاحبه افلق صدره فهوى أحدهما إلى صدري ففلقها فيما أرى بلا دم ولا وجع فقال له أخرج الغل والحسد فأخرج شيئا كهيئة العلقة ثم نبذها فطرحها فقال له أدخل الرأفة والرحمة فإذا مثل الذي أخرج يشبه الفضة ثم هز إبهام رجلي اليمنى فقال اغد واسلم فرجعت بها أغدو رقة على الصغير ورحمة للكبير
