There was a man in Medina, and I do not know of anyone whose home or dwelling was farther from the mosque than his. Someone said to him, "If only you bought a donkey to ride during the scorching heat and in the darkness."He replied, "It would not please me for my home, or my dwelling, to be next to the mosque."Word of this reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who asked him, "What did you mean by saying, 'It would not please me for my dwelling, or my home, to be next to the mosque'?"He said, "I wanted my walk to the mosque to be recorded when I set out, and my return to be recorded when I went back to my family."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Allah Almighty has granted you all of that," or, "Allah has given you everything you hoped for," or, "Allah Almighty has granted you all of that, every reward you hoped for."
حدثنا يحيى بن سعيد عن التيمي عن أبي عثمان
كان رجل بالمدينة لا أعلم رجلا كان أبعد منه منزلا أو قال دارا من المسجد منه فقيل له لو اشتريت حمارا فركبته في الرمضاء والظلمات فقال ما يسرني أن داري أو قال منزلي إلى جنب المسجد فنمي الحديث إلى رسول الله ﷺ فقال ما أردت بقولك ما يسرني أن منزلي أو قال داري إلى جنب المسجد قال أردت أن يكتب إقبالي إذا أقبلت إلى المسجد ورجوعي إذا رجعت إلى أهلي قال أعطاك الله تعالى ذلك كله أو أنطاك الله ما احتسبت أجمع أو أنطاك الله تعالى ذلك كله ما احتسبت أجمع
