Zirr said, I said to Ubayy, "Tell me about Laylat al-Qadr, for Ibn Umm Abd used to say that whoever stands in prayer throughout the year will catch it."Ubayy replied, "May Allah have mercy on Abu Abdul-Rahman. He knew very well that it is in Ramadan, and that it is the twenty-seventh night, but he wanted to keep it hidden from people so they would not rely on that alone. By Allah, who sent down the Book upon Muhammad, it is in Ramadan, on the twenty-seventh night."I asked, "Abu Mundhir, how did you come to know this?"He answered, "By the sign that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ informed us about. We counted and we memorized it. By Allah, it is that night without any doubt."I asked Zirr, "What is the sign?"He said, "The sun rises that morning looking like a basin without rays."
حدثنا يحيى بن سعيد عن سفيان حدثني عاصم
قلت لأبي أخبرني عن ليلة القدر فإن ابن أم عبد كان يقول من يقم الحول يصبها قال يرحم الله أبا عبد الرحمن قد علم أنها في رمضان فإنها لسبع وعشرين ولكنه عمى على الناس لكيلا يتكلوا فوالله الذي أنزل الكتاب على محمد إنها في رمضان ليلة سبع وعشرين قال قلت يا أبا المنذر وأنى علمتها قال بالآية التي أنبأنا رسول الله ﷺ فعددنا وحفظنا فوالله إنها لهي ما يستثنى قلت لزر ما الآية قال إن الشمس تطلع غداة إذ كأنها طست ليس لها شعاع
