Rubai said, I visited Khabab when he had been cauterized, and he said, "I do not know of anyone who has endured trials like those I have endured. In the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ I could not find a single dirham, yet now I have forty thousand stored in this corner of my house. Were it not that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us," or he said, "forbade us to wish for death, I would have wished for it."
حدثنا محمد بن جعفر حدثنا شعبة عن أبي إسحاق
دخلت على خباب وقد اكتوى فقال ما أعلم أحدا لقي من البلاء ما لقيت لقد كنت وما أجد درهما على عهد رسول الله ﷺ وإن لي في ناحية بيتي هذا أربعين ألفا ولولا أن رسول الله ﷺ نهانا أو نهى أن نتمنى الموت لتمنيته
Its isnad is sahih, and Haritha bin Mudarrib is one of the trustworthy Followers. The hadith has already appeared at 20958.
