He was with the Khawarij, then he parted from them. He said, "They entered a village, and Abdullah bin Khabab came out alarmed, dragging his cloak. They said, 'Do not be frightened.'He said, 'By Allah, you have frightened me.'They said, 'Are you Abdullah bin Khabab, the companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?'He said, 'Yes.'They said, 'Did you hear from your father any hadith that he narrated from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that you can tell us?'He said, 'Yes, I heard him narrate from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that he mentioned a tribulation in which the one sitting is better than the one standing, the one standing is better than the one walking, and the one walking is better than the one running. He said, "If you live to see that, be Abdullah the slain."'"Ayub said, "I only know that he also said, 'And do not be Abdullah the killer.'"They said, "Did you yourself hear this from your father narrating it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?"He said, "Yes."So they brought him forward to the bank of the river and struck off his head. His blood flowed like the strap of a sandal, not spreading out, and they slit open the belly of his slave-mother to get at what was in her womb.
