The muezzin of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would call the adhan and then wait without giving the iqamah. He would delay until he saw the Prophet ﷺ come out, and then he would call the iqamah for the prayer.
حدثنا أسود بن عامر أخبرنا إسرائيل عن سماك
كان مؤذن رسول الله ﷺ يؤذن ثم لا يقيم يمهل حتى إذا رأى النبي ﷺ قد خرج أقام الصلاة
