We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey, and I asked him about something three times, but he did not answer me. I said to myself, "May your mother lose you, son of Khattab. You pressed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ three times, and he did not answer you."So I mounted my camel and rode ahead, fearing that something had been revealed concerning me. Then I heard a caller calling out, "Umar, where is Umar?"I returned, thinking that something had been revealed about me, and the Prophet ﷺ said, "Last night a surah was revealed to me that is more beloved to me than the world and all it contains, 'Indeed, We have given you a clear conquest, that Allah may forgive you what preceded of your sin and what will follow'" [Fath 48:1–2].
حدثنا أبو نوح حدثنا مالك بن أنس عن زيد بن أسلم عن أبيه
كنا مع رسول الله ﷺ في سفر قال فسألته عن شيء ثلاث مرات فلم يرد علي قال فقلت لنفسي ثكلتك أمك يا ابن الخطاب نزرت رسول الله ﷺ ثلاث مرات فلم يرد عليك قال فركبت راحلتي فتقدمت مخافة أن يكون نزل في شيء قال فإذا أنا بمناد ينادي يا عمر أين عمر قال فرجعت وأنا أظن أنه نزل في شيء قال فقال النبي ﷺ نزلت علي البارحة سورة هي أحب إلي من الدنيا وما فيها {إنا فتحنا لك فتحا مبينا ليغفر لك الله ما تقدم من ذنبك وما تأخر}

Its isnad is sahih. Ibn Kathir quoted it in the tafsir from Musnad 7/518 and said, Bukhari, Tirmidhi, and Nasai narrated it through Malik's route, and Ali bin Madini said, "This is a good Madinan isnad, we have not found it except with them."As for his saying, "I pressed the Messenger of Allah," it means he pressed him persistently in his question and request, and he disciplined him by remaining silent in response to him. It is said, "So-and-so does not give until he is pressed," meaning until he is pressed persistently, as stated in Nihaya. Ibn Kathir's narration reads, "I pressed and repeated my request to the Messenger of Allah."
