The muezzin of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would call the adhan, then wait without giving the iqamah until he saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ come out. Once he saw him, he would give the iqamah.

كان مؤذن رسول الله ﷺ يؤذن ثم يمهل فلا يقيم حتى إذا رأى رسول الله ﷺ خرج أقام حين يره
