Among the conditions that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took from us at the pledge of allegiance was that we would not wail in mourning. None of us fulfilled this except five women.
حدثنا محمد بن جعفر أخبرنا هشام عن حفصة
كان فيما أخذ رسول الله ﷺ علينا عند البيعة أن لا تنحن فما وفت منا غير خمس نسوة
Its chain of transmission is sahih. It is found in Bukhari 3/176, no. 1305 (Fath), and Muslim 2/645, no. 936, both in the Book of Funerals, on the prohibition of wailing. Similarly, Abu Dawud 3/190, no. 3127, and Nasai 7/149, in the Book of Allegiance, on wailing, and Bayhaqi 4/62.
