My father said, while I was reciting "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, Lord of all the worlds." When he finished, he said, "My son, beware of innovation in Islam, for I prayed behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, behind Abu Bakr, behind Umar, and behind Uthman, may Allah be pleased with them, and they did not open the recitation with 'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.'"I have never seen a man more averse to innovation than him.
حدثنا عفان حدثنا وهيب عن أبي مسعود الجريري سعيد بن إياس عن قيس بن عباية حدثني
قال أبي وأنا أقرأ بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم الحمد لله رب العالمين فلما انصرف قال يا بني إياك والحدث في الإسلام فإني صليت خلف رسول الله ﷺ وخلف أبى بكر وخلف عمر وعثمان رضي الله تعالى عنهم فكانوا لا يستفتحون القراءة ببسم الله الرحمن الرحيم ولم أر رجلا قط أبغض إليه الحدث منه
