Abu Bakra reported,

Jibreel said, "Muhammad, recite the Quran in one mode."Mikail said, "Ask for more."So he asked for more, and Jibreel said, "Recite it in two modes."Mikail again said, "Ask for more."So he kept asking for more until it reached seven modes. Jibreel said, "Each is sufficient and complete, as long as you do not end a verse of punishment with mercy or a verse of mercy with punishment, like your saying, 'Come,' 'Approach,' 'Come here,' 'Go,' 'Hurry,' and 'Hasten.'"

أن جبريل عليه السلام قال يا محمد اقرأ القرآن على حرف قال ميكائيل عليه السلام استزده فاستزاده قال اقرأه على حرفين قال ميكائيل استزده فاستزاده حتى بلغ سبعة أحرف قال كل شاف كاف ما لم تختم آية عذاب برحمة أو آية رحمة بعذاب نحو قولك تعال وأقبل وهلم واذهب وأسرع واعجل
