The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Jibreel, "What prevents you from visiting us more often than you do?"Then was revealed "And we descend not except by the command of your Lord" [Maryam 19:64], to the end of the verse.
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Umar bin Dharr is trustworthy, deemed trustworthy by Qattan, Ibn Main, Ajli, and others. Abu Dharr bin Abdullah bin Zurara Marhabi (with the meem vowelled with a dammah, the ra with sukun, and the ha with a kasrah) is trustworthy, deemed trustworthy by Ibn Main, Nasai, and others, and Bukhari gave his biography in al-Kabir 1/2/244.Ibn Kathir cited this hadith in his tafsir, 5:384, and said, "Bukhari alone reported it," narrating it, in his commentary on this verse, from Abu Naeem from Umar bin Dharr. Ibn Abu Hatim and Ibn Jareer also narrated it. By Bukhari's being alone in reporting it, he means that Muslim did not narrate it.Suyuti, in Durr Manthur, 4:278, attributed it to Muslim, Abd bin Humayd, Nasai, Ibn Mardawayh, Hakim, and Bayhaqi in Dalail, but I did not find it in Sahih Muslim, and it appears that Suyuti was mistaken. Tirmidhi also narrated it, 4:145, and his commentator said, "Ahmad, Bukhari, and Nasai reported it in their works on tafsir."
