When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ left Mecca, Ali went out taking the daughter of Hamza with him. Ali, Jafar, and Zayd disputed over her before the Prophet ﷺ.Ali said, "She is my cousin, and I am the one who brought her out."Jafar said, "She is my cousin, and her maternal aunt is my wife."Zayd said, "She is my brother's daughter." Zayd had been made a brother to Hamza, as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had established brotherhood between them.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Zayd, "You are my freed slave and hers."He said to Ali, "You are my brother and my companion."And he said to Jafar, "You resemble me in appearance and in character."Then he ruled that she would go to her maternal aunt.
حدثنا ابن نمير أخبرنا حجاج عن الحكم عن مقسم
لما خرج رسول الله ﷺ من مكة خرج علي بابنة حمزة فاختصم فيها علي وجعفر وزيد إلى النبي ﷺ فقال علي ابنة عمي وأنا أخرجتها وقال جعفر ابنة عمي وخالتها عندي وقال زيد ابنة أخي وكان زيد مؤاخيا لحمزة آخى بينهما رسول الله ﷺ فقال رسول الله ﷺ لزيد أنت مولاي ومولاها وقال لعلي أنت أخي وصاحبي وقال لجعفر أشبهت خلقي وخلقي وهي إلى خالتها
