A man stopped at our gathering in al-Baqi and said, "My father, or my uncle, told me that he saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at al-Baqi saying, 'Whoever gives a charity, I will bear witness for him by it on the Day of Resurrection.'"He continued, "So I unwound one or two folds of my turban, intending to give them in charity, but then what overtakes the children of Adam overtook me, and I tied my turban back up.Then a man came forward, and I had never seen at al-Baqi a man darker, more yellowish, or more brown than him, leading a she-camel. I had never seen at al-Baqi a finer she-camel than her. He said, 'Messenger of Allah, is this acceptable as charity?'He replied, 'Yes.'The man said, 'Take this she-camel.'Another man then accosted him and said, 'This fellow is giving this camel in charity? By Allah, she is better than him!'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ heard this and said, 'You have lied. Rather, he is better than you and better than her,' three times. Then he said, 'Woe to those who own hundreds of camels,' three times. They asked, 'Except whom, Messenger of Allah?'He answered, 'Except the one who does like this and like this with his wealth,' joining his hands together to his right and to his left. Then he said, 'Successful is the one who lives sparingly and exerts himself,' three times, meaning the one who lives sparingly in his livelihood and exerts himself in worship."
Its isnad is daif, due to the obscurity of the narrator from the companion, and Haythami said the same in 3/121. It will come again in a shorter wording.
