When I was a boy, I used to throw stones at the palm trees of the Ansar to knock down their fruit. Someone came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "There is a boy here throwing stones at our palm trees." So I was brought to the Prophet ﷺ.He asked, "Boy, why do you throw stones at the palm trees?"I replied, "To eat from them."He said, "Do not throw stones at the palm trees. Eat what falls beneath them."Then he wiped my head and said, "O Allah, fill his belly."
حدثنا معتمر قال سمعت ابن أبي الحكم الغفاري يقول حدثتني جدتي
كنت وأنا غلام أرمي نخلا للأنصار فأتي النبي ﷺ فقيل إن هاهنا غلاما يرمي نخلنا فأتي بي إلى النبي ﷺ فقال يا غلام لم ترمي النخل قال قلت آكل قال فلا ترم النخل وكل ما يسقط في أسافلها ثم مسح رأسي وقال اللهم أشبع بطنه
Its chain of transmission is daif, due to the unknown status of his grandfather Ibn Abu Hakam. Ibn Abu Hakam is the Ghifari, said to be named Abdul-Kabir bin Hakam, and he is mastur.The hadith was narrated by Abu Dawud, 3/40, no. 2620, in the chapter on jihad, "Whoever says he eats from what falls," and Tirmidhi, 3/575, no. 1288, who said, hasan gharib, and Ibn Majah, 2/770, no. 2299. Hakim and Dhahabi passed over it in silence, 3/444.
