The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I saw in a vision a bucket lowered down from the sky. Abu Bakr came and took hold of its ropes and drank from it a light drink." Affan added, "And there was some weakness in it." "Then Umar
came and took hold of its ropes and drank until he was fully satisfied. Then Uthman
came and took hold of its ropes and drank, but it slipped away from him and some of it splashed onto him."
حدثنا عبد الصمد وعفان قالا ثنا حماد بن سلمة أخبرنا الأشعث بن عبد الرحمن الجرمي عن أبيه عن سمرة بن جندب أن
قال رسول الله ﷺ رأيت كأن دلوا دليت من السماء فجاء أبو بكر رضي الله تعالى عنه فأخذ بعراقيبها فشرب منه شربا ضعيفا قال عفان وفيه ضعف ثم جاء عمر رضي الله عنه فأخذ بعراقيبها فشرب حتى تضلع ثم جاء عثمان رضي الله عنه فأخذ بعراقيبها فشرب فانتشطت منه فانتضح عليه منها شيء
Its isnad is hasan, and Ashath bin Abdul-Rahman Jarmi and his father are both maqbul, and his father is unattributed. The hadith was narrated by Abu Dawud, 4/208, no. 4637, in Sunnah, Khulafa. Haythami said, 7/180, the men of Ahmad are trustworthy.
